Warner Brothers x Eventbox - DUBAI

Again I have been late to update what has been going on in my life, but here I am yet again. To say that this year has been full of ups and down is an understatement, but this recent opportunity and project is something I think the universe was telling me to pursue and take full advantage of- and that’s exactly what I’m doing.

After a lull from mid-March (after booking and shooting “Bull”) to the middle of June, not much was coming through the door. A project that I had once submitted for in November of 2018 popped up again on Actor’s Access and caught my attention yet again.. “The DC Justice League.” A traveling tour spanning across the UAE and Middle East comprising of an 18 minute theatrical show performed 3 times per day in the middle of a mall.

(Not my particular cup’o’tea, but something I thought I might give another shot)

The project, as mentioned, surfaced again on AA and I figured I’d submit. A request for a self tape and then a callback a week later seemed promising, then add to that the fact that I was a second callback the next day for 4 hours trying on three different suits for Superman, Batman, and The Flash- auditioning all three characters. And then… radio silence. This is why so many of us (actors) go to therapy. I got radio silence for two and a half weeks until JUST at the point where I told myself that I needed to go back to bartending and I had to be re-hired at my place of work and I coordinated with my head bartender days that I could work that week- I get an email the same exact day as my first shift back in 7 months…

“Hi Kyle, I hope you’re doing well. We would like to offer you the “swing” position on our upcoming tours for the DC Justice League in Dubai leaving this coming Saturday (it was Wednesday) June 22-July 23rd. We would like to get this moving as quickly as possible if you’re still available for the dates and we’ll need a picture of your passport, the contract, and all flight details finalized by Friday morning. Please let us know as soon as possible, thank you!”

…. I was speechless. I was confused. I was completely shocked.

I can’t believe that this is really an offer on the table right now… BUT FUCK IT!

Within two days I had to tell my bartending manager that I was leaving and all of this work to fill me in at the bar was pointless for the next month. I had to find someone to sublet my room for an entire month and I had to clean out my room and store all of my things within two days. I had to clear my schedule of any other projects or opportunities. I had to pack my bags, and get the hell outta dodge. And that’s exactly what I did and I don’t regret a single second of it.

My time in Dubai was filled with incredible experiences like seeing Dubai from the top of the Burj Khalifa at the 125th floor, walking through the aquarium in the Dubai Mall (largest mall in the world), having a cultural breakfast and lunch at the Sheikh Mohamed Center for Cultural Education, feeding a camel a date with my mouth, walking the souks of the old city of Dubai, playing 18 holes of golf on the par 3 course at Emirates Gold Club, relaxing on the palm islands at the Atlantis Resort pool and beach, partying at Soho Garden and seeing Hot Since 82 at CODE, skiing inside of the Mall of Emirates at Ski Dubai (yes.. I skied in the desert), and having an incredible experience on a desert safari filled with plowing through dunes in an SUV, taking an ATV through the sand dunes at sunset and ripping through the sand, eating traditional Emirate, Pakistani and Indian food while watching a traditional dance, belly dance, and fire show on the stage at the center of the camp, oh.. and holding a hawk on my arm and head.

It was an experience I’ll never forget and that I’m incredibly blessed to be able to experience. I’ve worked very hard and sometimes I have to remind myself that this is something that hard work can lead to, or “pay off.”

I’m continuing to work with Eventbox on the same tour and will be traveling in the coming weeks to Beirut, Cairo, and Bahrain from August 26 to the end of October.

Stay tuned here, but more importantly, follow my Instagram account at @whoskyleglenn for day to day updates.

Until then… Sayonara!
